COVID-19: How It’s Affecting My Golf Season

COVID-19: How It’s Affecting My Golf Season

March 16, 2020 Posted by Carter Stroup

Everyone has been overwhelmed these past few days and weeks. The COVID-19 virus has altered all of our daily lives. I would first like to say, please follow all of the recommended precautions issued by the CDC. Second, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who have contracted this virus. I figured I would write a post on how it is affecting my golf season, and how I am trying to keep myself safe.

How COVID-19 is Affecting My Season

My spring season has been very much altered due to the COVID-19 virus. My first event of the season was scheduled for March 14-15. This event was canceled two days before it began. Not long after, Sneds Tour announced all of its events would be canceled until April 16. On March 16, SSJC announced it will be postponing all of its events for the next eight weeks. This means that my event scheduled for March 28-29 has been canceled. Currently, my first event that has not been canceled is April 25-26. As you can see, this has greatly disrupted my season; however, I am still practicing, and I am still improving. If you would like to view my updated schedule, you can do so here.

What I am Doing to Protect Myself

I am doing everything the CDC recommends listed below.

Help stop COVID-19 by doing the five.

In terms of golf, I am doing a few things differently. Firstly, I am staying six feet away from my playing partners at all times. I am not removing the flagstick from the hole. I usually like the pin out, but everyone is having to make sacrifices. When I receive a bucket of range balls, I dump the balls out, use hand sanitizer, and then only touch the ball with my club. All of these things will hopefully help keep me safe. I recommend that you join me and take all of the precautions that you can.

Conclusion

As I said above, this is affecting everyone. After all, it is a global pandemic. I will add updates as they become available to me below. Thank you to everyone for their support.

Update 4/01/2020: My home course has been closed due to lack of social distancing on the course. I am still practicing at home, but I am hoping my course opens back up very soon.

Update 4/06/2020: My HJGT event on April 25-26 at Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee has been canceled due to state restrictions. My first tournament as of now is at Greystone GC on May 23-25 in Dickson, Tennessee. This is very disappointing, but it is necessary to protect everyone.

Update 4/24/2020: My home course has opened back up with many restrictions in place. I am looking forward to start practicing on the course again.
